Obama said the shield would cover all Nato members in Europe and North America
A missile defence system covering all Nato countries has been agreed at the alliance's summit in Lisbon, US President Barack Obama has said.
The shield would cover all Nato members in Europe and North America.
Nato is also backing the swift ratification of the Start treaty between the US and Russia, cutting nuclear weapon stockpiles.
The summit will discuss Afghanistan on Saturday, with plans to end combat operations by 2014.
Nato will ask Russia to co-operate on missile defence and join the system.
On Saturday, leaders will meet Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, who is attending the summit.
Discussions will also focus on a shift in strategy for Nato in Afghanistan.

2010/10/30 08:00 1117 taking the biggest dive I have seen during SC24, the pixel reading has plummeted to 5473 (9242 ), the darkness ratio at 67% (69%). There is some new action rotating into view but only measures 72 pixels.
For those that missed it there was a cycle 23 spot/speck today. There can be no doubt, reversed polarity very close to the equator.
Yesterday's adjusted F10.7 flux figures recorded a high of 85.7 (88.0) and a low of 82.2 (82.8), starting to drift low. The DSN value for today is 2547 with the previous at 4415 . A dramatic slump.

04/28/10 - SDO Observes Massive Eruption, Scorching Rain - April 27, 2010: Just last week, scientists working with NASA's new Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) released the most astonishing movies of the sun anyone had ever seen. Now, they're doing it again. "SDO has just observed a massive eruption on the sun?one of the biggest in years," says Lika Guhathakurta of NASA headquarters in Washington DC. "The footage is not only dramatic, but also could solve a longstanding mystery of solar physics." Karel Schrijver of Lockheed Martin's Solar and Astrophysics Lab is leading the analysis. "We can see a billion tons of magnetized plasma blasting into space while debris from the explosion falls back onto the sun surface. These may be our best data yet."

04/14/10 - The Physics of Destruction -(How the Wormwood Brown Dwarf Star Destroys Things When It Gets Here) - All bodies floating in space broadcast fields of gravitational waves but it takes quite a bit of mass before those gravitational waves become ?significant?? are able to hold onto things. A gravitational wave-field reaches out in all directions in three-dimensional space but if a body in space is also spinning on an axis then something else happens at the equatorial plane of the spinning body (star or planet). The moving gravity field ?distorts? time-space. As the rate of spin increases? change in angular momentum per unit time? the distortion of the affected local time-space ?intensifies?. Where the distortion is maximal (around the ?equator?? at a right angle to the axis of rotation) it is reflected back by the dark matter/dark energy of time-space (?Dark Soup? if you will) and stable tubular gravitational ?node rings? will form? like invisible concentric ?hula hoops? around the equatorial plane of that spinning body (star or planet). They may be invisible but they definitely are there. These stable concentric ?hula hoop? node rings will usually fall within a few degrees of the equatorial plane and that?s where the planets will orbit around the sun. And for the planets, their gravitational node rings are where moons will orbit around planets. In short, a gravitational field of a body in space spinning on an axis is the basis for stable planetary orbits around stars as well as stable orbits of moons around planets. The size of the gravity field (amount of mass) and spin rate determine the reach (diameter) and the characteristics of the ?affected zone? where the concentric planar node rings will form. The sun has a gravitational wave-field that reaches out into space for about half a light year in all directions but its mass and its spin rate only generate stable node rings out to about four and a half ?light hours? of distance? the distance to the node ring of Neptune. Beyond that the outer planetoid bodies have different orbital configurations that are not guided by planar gravitational node rings. So the gravity field itself will reach out way beyond the ?distortion zone? radius where the node rings are located.
